Karim Rashid
Karim Rashid was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1960. After studying industrial design at Carleton University in Ottawa and pursuing postgraduate studies in Italy, he established his New York practice, with his projects ranging from product and furniture design to brand identity, spatial interiors, and large-scale architecture. Driven by a philosophy of democratic design, his studio focuses on combining functionality with vibrant color, organic form, and sensual minimalism to make design accessible to everyday life. He has collaborated with over 4,000 production designs for global clients including Alessi, Umbra, Artemide, Bonaldo, and BoConcept, alongside landmark interiors such as the Naples Università Metro Station. Featured in permanent collections at MoMA and the Centre Pompidou, his award-winning work delivers distinctive, enduring solutions that enrich contemporary culture.
