Thomas Sandell
Thomas Sandell was born in Jakobstad, Finland, in 1959. After studying architecture at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, he established a broad multidisciplinary practice, with his projects ranging from urban planning and public buildings to commercial interiors, furniture, and product design. Driven by an elegant, functional, and minimalist philosophy, his studio focuses on balancing ergonomic comfort and visual playfulness with clear forms, proportions, and everyday utility. He has completed major spatial projects like the interiors for Stockholm’s Museum of Modern Art and Rolf’s Kök, while collaborating with leading global brands including Swedese, Asplund, Offecct, B&B Italia, and IKEA. Recognized with the Utmärkt Svensk Form award eleven times, his practice delivers timeless, high-performance designs that continue to shape modern Swedish architecture and furniture culture.
